New Author’s Page for W.D. Nash-Fictionist

I just designed a new Facebook Author’s page for my Facebook followers. It will be similar to this page. Posts will be about sci-fi reviews, books, writing and promotional tips, and more. Head on over and let me know what you think.

All-CON 2020 in Addison TX –CANCELLED!

Well, I was set up and ready for the first day at ALL-CON Thursday. I was looking forward to meeting with other sci-fi fans. Then Friday morning I found a note on my table stating by order of the City of Dallas all events with over 500 attendees will close by 11 a.m. March 13, 2020. Oh well, there’s next year.

Attending All-Con in Addison This Week

Well, gang, this Wednesday I’m heading to Crown Plaza in Addison, TX, to get ready for ALL-CON. It starts on free admission Thursday at 3:00. You can check out the info at https://all-con.org/ and, if you attend, come over and say “Hi”. I’m at the booth B-12, the vitamin booth. My publisher name is Ink Slinger Enterprises.

Hope to see ya there.

Junk Mail and SASE Book Promotions

A little something I would like to share to my friends. My wife and I refinanced our house and got a better deal through Rocket Mortgage/Quicken Loans. Now I know why. They sell my contact info to others to make up the difference. Today in the mail we received 8 letters from different companies claiming they are working with Quicken Loans trying to sell us insurance for life and the mortgage. They had the ‘exact’ amount of the loan in each letter. Now let the spam begin…

The good side is I got 8 self-address stamped envelopes I’m going to use to promote my books. Instead of sending them their filled-out forms, I sending them each a card to promote the books (and they paid for the stamps).

Fly It Like You Stole It!

My first attempt creating a YouTube Video. What would you do if you found an abandoned flying saucer in your own backyard? Me, I would fly it like I stole it. Post below what you would do… Check out what Jack Slater did in USA: Eliminated!, available on Amazon at… www.amazon.com/gp/bookseries/B081K8M5TB#

A Fact About Facebook

A little something for my fellow authors (and other small businesses). I was just reading “The 10 Commandments of Author Branding” by Shayla Raquel about using social media. It has a good section on Facebook and she mentioned something I wanted to share. On page 50 she says… “Fact: according to Facebook’s policies, you’re not supposed to use your profile as a business.” If you do, Facebook can suspend your profile or shut it down. For authors, it’s best to create an author page on Facebook for your business (it’s still free).

All Con Dallas Event

I’ve signed up to promote my books and attend events at the upcoming ALL-CON Dallas this March 2020.  When I made my reservation at the hotel I learned there is also a Sci-Fi Con there as well.  Don’t know if it’s part of ALL-CON or not.  The guy at the hotel seemed to imply it’s a separate event.  I haven’t seen anything about it online yet.

The theme at ALL-CON is Battlestar Galactica.  Some actors from the originally series will be there.

If anyone is planning to attend look me up in the showroom.  I’ll be at the booth, B-12 (unless I get moved again).  My company name is Ink Slinger Enterprises.  Hope to see some of you there.

Pre-Book Review on Author Branding

I just started reading a book called “The 10 Commandments of Author Branding” by Shayla Raquel.  I saw her last October at Writers in the Field speak on branding and bought a copy of her new book.  So far I’m still in Commandment II, Thou Shalt Have a Local Writing Community.  One thing I liked was she said you should start branding yourself before you publish your book.  Now she tells me.  I’ve already published my second book.  Oops.

There are some other things she mentioned I liked as well.  Be yourself on social media, not a businessman/woman.  I spent right over 30 years running my DJ business before retiring and I find it hard to switch back when it comes to promoting my books.  So, here goes nothing.

If you’re interested in checking out her book you can find it here.

A Great Tool To Advertise Your Book With

Ever had the need for banner ads for your book, and you don’t have Photoshop? Would you like 3-D images of your book? Well, for the last several months I’ve been playing around with an online program called Book Brush. I can tell you all about what they have to offer, but I want to keep this post short, so I’m going to highlight some of the goodies.

First, you choose an ad size and template. They have several predesigned ones for Facebook, Twitter, and so on. You can even design a custom one. Next you have an option to choose over 1 million background images (no, I didn’t count them all), or you can upload your own. Then you can create a 3-D picture of your book in several different angles and styles. Then you add the text for the advertisement. They even have stamps you can use to add logos for Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and a lot more (no more searching for the store’s logo to download). In the end, you just click to save and download for your postings and ads.

Other goodies are a Video Creator and Mockups (scenes where your book cover is inserted to). I created the two mockup images below, and the space scenes images are with custom backgrounds I uploaded.

The online program does have issues with IE and Edge browsers. It’s best to use the Chrome browser instead.

Overall, this program is an excellent tool for authors to promote their work. They have packages you can join; one is free (with limited use), and the other is $96 for a year. You can learn more about them at www.bookbrush.com .
